How Can I Stop Mold When Starting Seeds?

I've been trying to start my own seeds for the last two years, but they keep developing mold. It seems like the humidity is the main problem. Does anyone have tips on how to manage humidity during the seed starting process? Also, would using hydrogen peroxide help prevent mold?

To avoid mold, make sure you're keeping your soil evenly moist but not soggy. It's also a good idea to have a fan running for air circulation. Once your seeds sprout, be sure to remove any domes covering them and only water when the top of the soil feels dry. Remember, some soil fungi can actually help your plants grow! If you're looking for a soil-less mix, those exist too, but you’ll need to add fertilizer later since they lack nutrients.

Oh, this is helpful! I definitely left the domes on for too long before. Thanks!

I faced a mold problem too, but it went away after I started using an oscillating fan. It might mean watering more frequently, but it definitely helped keep the mold at bay and also strengthened the seedlings!

Try to keep your seeds in a warm and bright spot to help evaporate any excess moisture. Use a plastic cover to maintain humidity while the seeds are germinating, but be sure to take it off as soon as you see sprouts. I'd skip the hydrogen peroxide; it could damage your young seedlings instead of helping them.

Thanks! I had no idea the cover should come off right away.
