How Can I Stop Smoke and Odors from Entering My Apartment?

I'm living in an old apartment building where the tenant below me smokes and burns incense often. The smoke seeps into my unit through the kitchen and bathroom cupboards, and possibly from a closet too. I've tried using sealant tape and had a contractor apply plaster, but it didn't work well. I have severe allergies that could trigger anaphylactic shock from the smoke, so I really need help with air sealing my space. I'm considering using caulking, spackle, or plaster, but I'm also open to any other suggestions to stop the smoke intrusion. My building is from the 1950s and hasn't been well maintained by the landlords. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely spray foam any noticeable gaps you can see! It’ll help reduce the smoke getting in from below. Along with that, investing in a giant air purifier with a solid HEPA filter can make a huge difference. While you might not be able to stop all the smoke in such an old building, the air purifier should help manage the rest!

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any specific brands or types of air purifiers you recommend? I’d love something with low scent since I’m sensitive to chemical smells.

Have you thought about getting a big air purifier? It can really help clean the air in your apartment! The bigger the model, the better it typically works. Letting it run constantly might help improve the situation a lot. Plus, you can probably find a good one that fits your budget.
