How Can I Stop Water From Coming Into My Garage During Heavy Rains?

Asked By SunnyDaze3 On

I have a situation where water seeps into my garage during heavy rains, mainly because my driveway is higher than the garage on one side. I'm looking for effective DIY solutions to divert the water away from my garage. Would piling up cold patch at the corner and sloping it work? Should I consider installing a drain? Or is it better to hire a professional to redo my entire driveway? I just want to stop any more water from getting in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried a garage door threshold strip? I found it on Amazon and it seems really effective. Worth checking the reviews too!

A driveway drain could really help if your driveway slopes toward the garage. It might be worth installing one. Just keep an eye on where the water is coming from; addressing the source is key. If it's from the roof, make sure your gutters are working well. If it's from your yard or a neighbor's, consider a swale or French drain to redirect it!

Absolutely! Depending on where the water is coming from, you may also want to consult a pro before jumping into any major work. Just some extra caution about re-routing water so it doesn't flood someone else's property!

I totally get your struggle! We had a similar issue. One idea is to raise the level of your garage floor with some epoxy. You might also think about cutting a channel under your garage door to help direct the water away. Just make sure to check the source of the water first!
