Hey everyone! I'm new to gardening and trying my best to nurture my plants, but I'm currently facing a big issue with horsetail taking over from a few neighboring gardens. I've researched a lot about how to manage it, and I even got a landscape company to quote me £180 for a spraying treatment. While I'm okay with the expense, I'm worried about it becoming a recurring cost. Can you guys help me tweak my plan to get this horsetail under control? Here's what I'm thinking: 1. Pull it up, 2. Use a root weed-killer, 3. Layer cardboard, 4. Add bricks/gravel, 5. Cover with mulch. I've heard that blocking sunlight is key. This plan is mainly for the side of my driveway where it seems a previous owner wanted a flower bed. Do you think this will work? Also, it's creeping into my new flower bed. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it there? The company claimed they can spray without harming my sunflowers and lilies, but I'm skeptical about that being a long-term solution. Thanks for your help!

Spending £180 might not be worth it in the long run. I doubt any company can spray something that only targets horsetail without harming other plants. I’d ask them for specific details about the chemicals they use, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend them. A good stirrup hoe can help with physical removal instead!
I bought some Diamond Horsetail weed killer for £58 on eBay, and it worked wonders! Just a single application, and I haven’t seen any horsetail since. I still have some left in case it tries to come back, but so far so good!
That's awesome! I might need to give that a try.
Honestly, just pull it whenever you see it. I check every weekend and it takes no time at all. It's the only way to really keep it in check. I tried covering it with a tarp and stones, but it still pops up now and then. It's persistent!

Totally agree! Always good to know what they’re using and how it affects your garden.
