How Can I Tell if I Have Grout or Caulk in My Shower?

I'm trying to figure out if the material between the tiles in my shower is grout or caulk. I recently got some caulk to seal a few gaps, but I read that if there's old caulk present, I might need to remove it first since new caulk might not stick well. Since I'm not at home right now, I'm unsure how to tell if the space has grout or caulk. I could share pictures later if it helps. Any advice would be appreciated!

One simple way to check is to poke the material with a pin. If it feels squishy, it’s probably caulk. If it’s more gritty and hard, that's grout or sanded caulk. Just keep in mind that for best results, there should be a decent gap to apply new material.

Thanks for the tip! I'm only interested in a quick fix since I'm renting. I just want to cover those little gaps to make it look nicer without doing a full redo. It’s mostly about aesthetics for me!
