How Can I Tell If My Sump Pump Backup Battery Is Still Good?

I'm looking for some advice on my sump pump backup battery. It came with the house, so I assume it's about 7-10 years old. The instructions say that the LED light should be green when it's charged, but I don't see any light at all. Is there any other way to check if it's working besides doing a force fail over?

From what you’ve said, it sounds like your battery might not be working anymore. If the LED isn’t lit, that’s usually a sign that it’s dead. Most batteries only last a few years, so I’d suggest replacing it soon. It might also be a good idea to have a plumber check the whole sump pump unit to make sure everything’s in good shape; it’s not something you want to overlook.

Yeah, if the LED isn’t green or even yellow while it’s charging, that’s definitely a red flag. It’s probably time for a battery replacement. You want to make sure your sump pump is reliable, especially if you live in an area prone to flooding.
