My house's roof has a leak, and while I know it ultimately needs to be replaced by a professional, finances aren't on my side right now. We're getting by on only one income, and financing isn't an option. What temporary solutions can I employ to keep the leak at bay until I can afford a full replacement?

A tarp can be a lifesaver for a leaking roof. Make sure to get one big enough to cover the peak of your roof—if it’s too small, water can sneak underneath. It's worth investing in a durable tarp to avoid making more holes for nails or screws. Check out guides on how to properly secure it to minimize leaks. Tarping is great, but I also suggest looking for the source of the leak. A few years back, I was in a similar spot and found a local roofer who patched the leak for just $85! He also used some leftover shingles to help us get by until we could afford a complete roof replacement. It ended up costing us around $250 for a nice temporary fix!
