How Can I Trim the Rounded Edge of a 2×4 with a Circular Saw?

I'm looking to trim off the rounded edge of a 2x4 using a circular saw since I don't have access to a table saw. I want to make use of the edge guide that usually comes with the saw, but it doesn't adjust close enough to the blade to cut such a thin strip. Can anyone recommend a circular saw that allows the edge guide to be adjusted closer to the blade? Also, is there a better method to achieve this?

You could definitely set up a jig using a straight piece of plywood as a reference. Just rest it on top of some 2x4s and ensure your workpiece is supported. It’s a simple solution that helps guide the saw along a straight line.

How thin are you trying to go? If it’s just about 1/4", you might even consider sanding it off instead. That could save you a lot of hassle!

I’d say about 1/4" for sure.

Hey! I made my own edge guide for my circular saw by following a YouTube tutorial. It wasn’t perfect, but it did get the job done. For the best results, if you’re cutting a 2x4, you might want to use another 2x4 as a reference to help keep your cuts steady. It can be tricky, but a little support goes a long way!
