Hey everyone! My husband and I are diving into gardening, and we've hit a bit of a debate about mowing. I'm not a fan of mowing the lawn since it disrupts the ecosystem, but he's keen on mowing it at least a little bit. I'm wondering if there's a way to mow that minimizes damage to the ecosystem or makes it less harmful? I really prefer keeping the grass taller for its ecological benefits and aesthetics, so any insights would be awesome! Thanks a bunch!

First things first, check out the local bylaws where you live. Sometimes they have specific rules about lawn maintenance that could influence what you can do. It might save you from any headaches later!
You should definitely check out Benjamin Vogt’s book, Prairie Up. He makes a strong case for tall grass and shares tips on transforming your lawn into more of a meadow or prairie design. I went that route myself and found it way easier to manage, especially during those crazy hot summer months when mowing can be a real chore.
Absolutely, I did something similar! I replaced our regular turf grass with clover. It's drought-resistant and great for local bees. Plus, walking on it barefoot is much nicer than regular grass!
