How Common Are Accidental Cuts When Wood Carving?

I'm curious about how often people accidentally cut themselves while carving wood. Personally, I've had at least 20 mishaps. Despite being decent at carving, I find it just happens sometimes. What's your experience?

I carve a bit recklessly, and I honestly don't know how many cuts I'd have without wearing gloves! I often find my fingers getting in the way at the end of the block that I’m carving. Those gloves are a comfort and a safety net for me, especially since I'm still getting used to the whole thing.

It might be worth looking at your technique a bit. If you're holding the wood in one hand and carving with the other, that's a recipe for cuts. Try to think of a safer way to manage your hold on the wood while carving.
