How Did You All Handle the Late May Cold Snap?

I'm curious about how everyone's plants fared during the late May cold spell. Did your garden survive the chill? Have you had to replant anything, or did you start late due to the weather? I've heard from folks in the Northeast and Midwest that the cold set them back a bit, so I'd love to know your experiences!

I had some damage on my tomatoes from the late frost, but surprisingly, they are doing better now than the ones I planted afterwards. They’re a bit bigger and have more blooms, likely because I let the earlier ones establish their roots indoors for a while. My potatoes and lettuce loved the cooler temps though. It was rough seeing how the wet and chilly weather stunted a lot of my summer crops, but hey, at least I got some good learning from it!

I ended up having to replant some beans since a bunch died from the cold, but overall, my other veggies are doing fine. I didn't plant my cool-season vegetables until late though, so I don't expect to get much from those before summer kicks in. At least the rest are thriving!

So, I’m just starting to see some decent growth on my transplanted veggies that went out before the cold. I had to delay putting out my cucurbits and sweet potatoes and planted them later than usual, so they spent more time in pots, which I don’t love. Thankfully, they survived the transplant, but they might be a little behind. I decided to start another batch of cucumbers and squash early just in case the first batch doesn’t make it.
