I'm looking to redo my small laundry area and plan to add a countertop above the new machines. I need to move the washer's water line and drain hookup down about a foot, while keeping everything else — like the distance from the side walls — the same. The water lines come from the ceiling, so I'm considering hiring a contractor for this. I've done some minor plumbing work, like installing P-traps in sinks, but I'm new to bigger plumbing tasks. The house was built around 2000, which I assume affects the materials used. How challenging will this project be?

If you're okay with doing some drywall repair and plumbing updates, this is definitely doable! You’ll need to cut the wall below the current box since that’s where you'll be moving it, which is great — less drywall repair! Just make sure your standpipe is at least 18 inches long after cutting; otherwise, you'll risk an overflow when the washer drains. Plan to cut the supply and drain lines a little longer than needed. Install the new box, trim the pipes, and attach your shutoffs. Then just tackle the drywall, and you’ll be your partner's hero!

Haha, sounds like you’ve been through this before! Thanks for the tips, I’ll give it a shot.
