How Difficult Is It to Replace a Gas Water Heater Myself?

I have a gas water heater that's around 18 years old, and it's starting to act up with a small leak and less hot water. I got a quote for about $3,000 for professional installation, and I'd like to avoid that cost if possible. I'm wondering what the chances are that my friends and I, without any plumbing experience, could successfully replace the heater ourselves. Any tips or guidance would be appreciated!

There's a ton of YouTube videos that can guide you through the process. If you're willing to put in the time to watch a few and feel confident, I think you could pull it off! Just remember to be methodical and don’t skip any steps.

Just a heads up, replacing a water heater can be pretty straightforward, usually just three connections. Depending on your access and the layout, it might only take about an hour. Just ensure your new heater fits in the same space as the old one, especially in terms of height.

Good to know! I'll make sure I measure everything before purchasing.

Absolutely! With enough determination and some YouTube tutorials, replacing a water heater isn't that tough. Just make sure to follow the instructions closely, especially since your unit is gas-powered.
