How Do I Choose the Right Garage Door?

I'm in a bit of a pickle with my garage door situation. My old door has been giving me constant trouble, and I was originally just going to replace the opener with a Chamberlain Smart View. However, now the door itself is acting up, and I'm seriously thinking about replacing the whole thing. I'm not sure if we can afford it, but I have no idea where to start looking.

Currently, I have an 8x7 foot insulated steel door with no windows, and I live in the Chicago suburbs. It's crucial that any new door has insulation, but I'm torn between sticking with steel or considering other materials. Wood is off the table for durability reasons in our weather. I'm not really keen on windows either, but I could be convinced if it's a good deal.

I'm also clueless about the price range I should expect. I've seen doors at Home Depot for around $400-600 but also ones that are way more expensive. I want to check out the doors in person instead of ordering online blindly. I've heard mixed reviews about brands like Clopay and Wayne Dalton, but I've seen some recommendations for Raynor, although I'm worried they might be costly. Any insights on brands and options would be super helpful!

I highly recommend checking out B&H in Chicago. They've always been honest with me, and it might be worth having them come over to give you a quote that includes installation.

B&H? Is that the full name? Because I thought there was only a photography store with that name.

I had a Clopay from Home Depot installed about 6 years ago, and it's been fantastic. I even had them custom spray paint it for an extra $400, but the finish and door quality have held up perfectly since then.

You might want to Google Menards and look for door #4251615; it’s a white raised panel insulated 8x7 door priced around $479 before any rebates. It has a torsion spring, and mine has lasted 38 years!

I did see a similar one, but it was #4254661, and it was more expensive. Any clue why that one is pricier? Also, what exactly do you mean by torsion spring?
