How do I cope after my plants were destroyed?

I had an awesome collection of 60 plants in my studio, but came home from work to find a disaster—broken pots, dirt everywhere, and it looked like something terrible had happened. My boyfriend, who had a bit too much to drink, accidentally knocked over some tiered stands holding my plants.

While I'm not looking for relationship advice, I'm struggling to move on from losing my green babies. Many of these plants were nurtured from cuttings or tiny pots into thriving specimens, so it really hurts to see my hard work go to waste. I managed to save most of them, but the collection looks pretty sad now. Thankfully, my favorite ceramic pots survived the chaos. Should I wait it out, or start getting new plants?

One thing I was told that helped me when I faced a similar situation is that plants love to live! It’s really healing to witness them bounce back from this kind of setback. Give yourself time to grieve; you don’t have to rush to "get over it." It’s totally okay to feel sad about your loss.

I love that! I felt so much better just hearing that. Thanks for sharing!

Exactly! I’ve been feeling silly for crying over plants since many were saved, but it’s just a hard hit.

I recommend trying both salvage and shopping! Plants are tougher than we realize and often bounce back if given the right care. Best of luck!

Thanks! My syngoniums survived but are looking pretty wilted right now. I need to repot them, but I don’t have soil I trust after a past gnat issue.

I can relate; I’ve lost a few pots worth of plants before. It’s tough, but reducing it to perspective helps—consider how much worse it could have been!
