How Do I Deal with Aphids on My Pepper Plants?

Asked By GardenGuru99 On

I've recently noticed some aphids infesting my pepper plants. I sprayed them with a very diluted neem oil solution and also soaked some of the soil with it. After that treatment, my peppers seem to have stopped flowering and their growth has stalled. Could the aphids be the reason for this, or might it be the neem oil? I'm looking for any advice on how to handle this situation—thanks a lot!

I totally feel your pain! Here's what works for me: First, squish as many aphids as you can see whenever you pass by your plants. Then hang sticky traps nearby to catch the flying ones. I also spray a non-toxic insecticide regularly—just monitor your plants to make sure they're not reacting negatively to it. Consistency is key here!

Honestly, neem oil doesn’t have a good reputation for dealing with aphids. I’ve tried it and had little success. Instead, I recommend using Castile soap mixed with water. It kills the aphids on contact and doesn’t harm beneficial insects like bees! In severe cases, you could try Pyrethrum, but always dilute it and test it first to avoid damaging your plants.

From my experience, pepper plants don't really do well with neem oil. They can really react adversely to it. I’ve switched to using a diluted dish soap and water mix instead, and it works better for aphids. I've also started planting flowers nearby to attract hover flies, which help manage the aphid population too. Just remember to brush off the aphids when you see them and give your plants a good spray down!

Yeah, I’ve found the same issue with neem oil in summer. These plants definitely seem to prefer a different approach.
