I'm completely new to gardening and need some guidance on where to start. For the past couple of years, I've been focusing on keeping my garden clear of weeds in hopes of planting some beautiful flowers, but I still haven't figured out what to grow. My garden has a south-facing border that gets full sun, and I'm considering plants like lavender, heather, or hebe. Previously, I had rose bushes there, but they grew too unruly and made it difficult to see the garden from the house. I'd love to know if there's a website where I can input my garden conditions to find suitable plants. Any suggestions on plants or resources to begin my gardening journey would be incredibly helpful!

The first step is to think about what kind of garden you envision. Do you want it to be a relaxing retreat for outdoor dining, a vegetable garden, or a vibrant flower display? Also, consider how often you'll be using the space—only on weekends or perhaps relaxing in the evenings? Having a clear vision will help direct your planting choices.
That’s solid advice! You can really take your time to develop it into something beautiful over the years instead of rushing it.
Start by experimenting with plants you love or want to consume! Try different types and observe what thrives in your garden. You'll learn quickly which plants suit the soil, sunlight, and drainage. Just dive in, and don’t hesitate to change things up as you go along!
Thanks for the encouragement! I hadn’t thought of just trying things out, but I’m excited to do that!

I appreciate that perspective! I’m looking for a low-maintenance garden too, something pretty without too much fuss.
