I just moved into an old townhouse that has been vacant for quite a while, and there's a really strong musty smell that's driving me nuts! I've tried plugging in some air fresheners around the place, but the smell still won't go away. Since it's a rental, what can I do about it besides complaining to my property management?

One of the best things you can start with is to open up all the windows and let some fresh air in. This helps a lot! You might also want to consider giving the carpets a good steam clean, replacing the furnace filters, and making sure to get the air circulating throughout the house. It can really make a difference!
Definitely start with letting fresh air in! Open the windows as much as you can and set up fans to help circulate the air. On top of that, try leaving bowls of white vinegar or baking soda around – they really soak up the smells better than air fresheners do. If it’s an option, running a dehumidifier and air purifier can help tackle that mustiness too.

I totally agree! I did the same thing in my old place and it worked wonders. Plus, I found that wiping down walls and baseboards can also help since old dust holds onto smells.
