How Do I Fix Exposed Drywall After Paint Removal?

Hey folks! I need some advice on how to patch up a section of drywall that's been damaged. My husband accidentally tore off the paint along with part of the drywall, and now the brown paper is exposed. We're renting, so I want to make sure I tackle this properly. Any tips would be appreciated!

For small areas, a rattle can paint will do the trick to seal the brown paper layer. If it’s a bigger area, go for an oil or alcohol-based primer to ensure better adhesion.

To fix the exposed brown paper, try spraying a primer on it first to seal it. After that, you can skim coat over it and paint it. It’s a straightforward fix and should hold up well.

I agree with the others! Zinnser Bin is a great choice since it's shellac-based. Just make sure to scuff it up a bit afterward to get rid of any paper fuzzies before applying the skim coat. Just a heads-up, it's a bit pricey for what you get.
