How Do I Get Rid of a Persistent Burger Smell in My Apartment?

I recently cooked two burgers in a brand new pre-seasoned cast iron skillet, and now my apartment smells like burgers and cast iron. I had the microwave fan on, but it doesn't vent outside—just circulates air in the apartment. It's been three weeks, and I still notice this weird burger smell as soon as I walk in. I've already thrown away the skillet, boiled white vinegar, washed everything in my place, cleaned all the cabinets, fridge, stove, sink, and microwave. I've aired it out multiple times for several hours, and I even have a LG HEPA air purifier. I used an ozone machine for 90 minutes today, and the smell still lingers faintly. I've also washed all fabrics and steamed the floors. I'm at my wit's end and really need some advice on how to eliminate this smell! My apartment has tile flooring throughout.

You might want to check the filter in your microwave fan—it's likely full of grease and that could be where the smell is coming from. Washing or replacing it can make a big difference!

Honestly, it's probably just the lingering fat particles from cooking, and your fan may be recirculating that. You could try cleaning surfaces with something citrus-based to cut through the grease. Don't stress too much; the smell will fade over time with adequate airflow. Just avoid covering it with air fresheners for now. They don't really take care of the root issue!

Try using baking soda or activated charcoal around your apartment. They can absorb lingering odors really well! Don't forget to inspect your vents, curtains, and carpets too, since they can trap smells. If all else fails, consider getting a professional ozone or deep cleaning for your carpets and fabrics; sometimes it’s just needed to tackle stubborn odors.
