How Do I Handle a Contractor Who’s Only Working a Few Hours a Day on My Bathroom?

I've hired a contractor to renovate my tiny bathroom (just 25 sq ft), and it feels like it's taking longer than it should. He started a week ago and is still not done with the demolition phase! He typically shows up around 11:30 and leaves by 3 pm. We're feeling anxious about the time it's taking and want to know if it's fair to bring this up with him given we want the project completed sooner rather than later.

It's totally reasonable to ask your contractor about the timeline. You might say something like, "Your estimate was 2-3 weeks, but it seems like the demo is taking longer than expected. Can we chat about where things stand?" Remember, a lot of contractors juggle multiple jobs, so it’s good to communicate your expectations clearly!

Yeah, definitely have that conversation! It’s common for contractors to work on several projects at once. Just make sure to check in with him to know what’s causing the delay. He might be waiting on materials or managing other tasks, but clear communication can help set your expectations.

If you signed a contract, check if there are any timelines laid out. It's also okay to inquire why it's taking so long. If he can't explain, you might have reason to be concerned. Keeping the bathroom functional while he waits for parts can be a strategy, but just make sure he’s transparent with you about the process.
