How Do I Properly Paint My Ceiling in Two Coats?

I recently got some ceiling paint and the guy at Home Depot told me to apply two coats in alternating directions. Now, I'm wondering about the corners and edges—I'll need to use a paintbrush for that. Should I cut in first and then roll in one direction, followed by cutting in again and rolling the second coat? Also, when using the brush, should the strokes go the same direction as the roller or follow the wall?

Honestly, the two directions thing might not be essential. Most people just roll in one direction for each coat. Just make sure you've got great lighting to see what you're doing. I picked up a super bright work light and it made a huge difference!

When you're cutting in with the brush, you should keep the strokes parallel to the wall. I typically do my first coat by rolling from one side of the room to the other, then for the second coat, I'll roll back toward the window wall. Just make sure you overlap where you cut in to avoid any lines.
