I just got a snake plant yesterday, and I'm having some trouble with watering it. When I water it, the water just sits on the surface of the soil for about 20-30 seconds before soaking in. Does this mean it needs new soil? The soil is a chunky mix, but I'm not sure if that's the issue.

It sounds like your best bet is to bottom water the plant. This means you soak the pot in a dish of water, allowing the soil to absorb moisture from the bottom up. It can help if water isn’t penetrating the surface well. Just make sure the pot has drainage holes!

Does that mean I should skip regular watering if I bottom water? I want to be careful not to overdo it.
