How Do I Stain or Paint My Patio Door Frame?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to stain my patio door frame in a darker shade, like espresso or walnut, to better match my wood floors. Since I'm new to home improvement, I have a few questions. What steps do I need to take before I start staining or painting? Also, which option is better, staining or painting? I'd love to hear any brand recommendations you might have. Thanks a lot!

First things first, make sure your door frame is actually made of real wood and not just some fake plastic stuff, otherwise, staining won't take. If it's real wood, you'll want to sand it down and clean the surface thoroughly. For beginners, staining can be easier, and it usually looks great on wood! For brands, Minwax and Varathane are popular choices. They offer a good range of colors and should work nicely for your project!

Yeah, definitely check if it's real wood! If it is fake, painting could be your best bet. Just remember painting will give it a solid look, while staining shows off the wood grain.
