I've just had my garden landscaped due to the unfortunate nature of the previous new build setup, which was a sloped mess. Now, it's been divided into three tiers with one patio and two grassy areas, featuring a 300mm drop between each level. The builders added narrow planters on either side of the steps which was a pleasant surprise, but I wish they were wider. Currently, the planters are filled with debris from the old lawn, so I need to replace that dirt. My garden is located in Scotland at about 200m elevation, where winters are cold, windy, and snowy. However, it's southwest facing with plenty of sunlight in the summer. I want to know where to begin with planting. I've read about using cardboard, mulch, topsoil, and compost, and I'm interested in plants like salvia, lupins, and verbena. Down the line, I hope to create more organic bedding areas instead of just rectangles. Any tips on where I should start? Thanks for your advice!

It'd really help to post some pictures of your garden so we can get a better idea of the layout, especially which direction the borders face. I had a new build garden a few years back and it can come together surprisingly quickly! With the slope, you might need to consider drainage – I had to add a French drain because my patio was flooding thanks to the builders skimping on the drainage. Just a heads-up, if you have a significant drop, it can work for you with good drainage management.
I've added a photo of my garden now! Honestly, I'm overwhelmed and not sure where to start since everything was landscaped just to cover up the rubble.

Here's a photo of how my borders looked after some adjustment. I had to thin out the plants too, so definitely keep that in mind as things grow!
