Hey everyone! I'm a first-time homeowner in the Midwest with a good number of trees in my yard, and I've noticed a bunch of fallen branches piling up. I'd love to hear what the general etiquette is for getting rid of them. I'm considering composting, but I also think I might want to save some for my fireplace. I haven't had it inspected yet, so I'm not sure if it even works. What do you all do with branches?

It depends on the size of the branches. If they’re big enough, save them for bonfires. Otherwise, I’d either compost them or make habitat piles for small animals like rabbits. No shortage of branches here—my trees constantly shed! Also, check your local services; my city has a forestry department that picks them up regularly, which is super helpful for large piles!
You can also check if your city does brush pickups a couple of times a year. If not, burning or making a pile is the way to go! If they’re small enough, they can make great mulch once you break them down.
Exactly! Just toss them in a pile and by fall, they’ll break down enough to be pretty much unnoticeable.
You could do a few things! Some folks burn them, while others might just pile them up and wait until they're fed up and finally get rid of them. That's my personal favorite—just let them sit there until bonfire season rolls around!

My town has a recycling center for yard waste. They compost or chip it and use it around the city, so definitely look into that option!
