I'm curious about the best practices for deadheading flowers. Should I only remove the spent blooms, or is it also necessary to cut back the stems? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I usually prune the stem back to the new bud, unless it's roses. I cut several buds down the stem for shaping. With roses, you can also prune down to where the leaf meets the stalk, as there's often a new bud waiting to grow.
It really depends on the type of flower. For tulips, it's best to remove just the blooms and leave the stems to allow energy for next year's growth. However, with most annuals and perennials, you can cut the stems too to make room for new growth!
