Hey everyone! I'm posting here to get some feedback on a foundation built by my brother-in-law without my consent. It's a bit of a messy family situation, so I'm trying to figure out what shortcuts he may have taken. Originally, there was a manufactured home, which he removed to build a house on the same foundation. He claims he added enough support to handle the extra weight, and there's also a back extension resting on a slab. I know it's tough to give a solid opinion without being there, but does this seem structurally sound to you? Just looking for some insights before I hire an engineer. From what I can see, it looks decent enough, but I’d want to know how long the house has been standing on that foundation. If it’s been up for a while without major issues, that’s a good sign. Just keep in mind that without professional input, it’s hard to tell for sure, especially given the history of the build.
Honestly, you might want to get that checked out by a pro before you commit to anything. Foundations are crucial, and while it might look okay now, you never know what could happen down the line, especially during an earthquake! Better safe than sorry.
