How Do You Stay Cool While Working in the Heat?

Hey everyone! It's been roasting here in upstate NY with temperatures hitting the 90s almost every day and no rain in sight. I'm curious about what everyone uses to keep cool while working outside in this brutal heat. Any tips or tricks would be super helpful!

I keep it simple with a wide-brimmed hat and close-cropped hair. I also bring extra shirts to change into and drink lots of water throughout the day. Sometimes I’ll mix in Gatorade during the afternoons, plus I try to eat salty snacks for lunch. Podcasts and music help distract me from feeling miserable!

Totally agree! I soak a bandana in cold water or wrap ice cubes in it to help cool down. Also, taking plenty of breaks really makes a difference!

I can’t handle hats; I just go for a plain white shirt and shorts to stay cool.

I recommend starting your work in the cooler morning hours, wearing light-colored and breathable clothing like cotton. Staying hydrated is key too! I always keep a spray bottle handy to cool me down, and I listen to my body—when it’s time to take a break, I do it!

Have you guys tried clip-on waist fans? They blow cool air under your shirt and last all day, which has really changed the game for me. They're pretty affordable too, around $20!

That sounds awesome! I just got a wide-brimmed hat with built-in mini-fans. It’s a total game changer!

Not a landscaper, but I’ve tried ice vests while mowing and they work wonders! Just be ready to have a cooler for extra ice packs though, or you might feel a bit silly looking like you're in a flak vest!

Haha, nice! I'm tempted to try that out!
