How do you successfully sell your woodworking projects?

Hey everyone! I'm curious about how you all go about selling your woodworking projects. I've got a bunch of pieces just sitting in my garage, and I'm struggling to find buyers. I'm not trying to sell my stuff here or anything—I'm just genuinely looking for some advice. I've already posted my projects on Facebook Marketplace, but I need some tips on what sells and how to connect with potential buyers.

A key thing for selling is to make your pieces look more appealing. Painting your projects can attract more buyers—Facebook Marketplace loves trendy colors like navy or white. I've found that many customers aren't into raw wood looks these days, so don't be afraid to get creative with finishes. Pricing can also be tricky; I've found success pricing my items below the material costs, but you really shouldn't undervalue your effort. Sometimes raising your prices actually helped me sell more!

That's really interesting! I've been hesitant about painting them, but I see your point. I might give it a shot.

It can be tough to make a profit doing woodworking since many people prefer cheaper options like IKEA or Amazon. But it's important to remember that woodworking isn't usually about making money or saving money; it's about the craft. Focus on creating unique pieces that stand out. If you're aiming to sell, consider flipping furniture or identifying a bit of a niche in your designs that isn't saturated. Getting eye-catching photographs and learning how to write compelling ads can make a huge difference, too!

For sure! It also helps to engage with your audience on social media. That way, you can showcase your work and build a following.

When trying to sell, developing good photography and ad writing skills can be essential. Honestly, I've had better luck selling on platforms like Instagram and in Facebook groups than on Marketplace, which can be super hit or miss depending on where you live. It's important to sell what you're passionate about rather than just following the trends. Every few years, different things will be popular—like the shift from 2x4 furniture to cutting boards. Just remember, don’t undersell your work! I've found that increasing my prices actually led to more sales than when I tried lowering them.
