I recently bought some standard hollow, 6-panel white interior doors from Home Depot to replace my old ones. These doors have cut-outs for knobs and locks, but there are no pre-cut spots for hinges. Currently, my old doors have recessed hinges, and I'm wondering how difficult it will be to cut the hinge recesses myself and hang these new doors. I've got some handy experience from my 9 years as a mechanic in the Navy and have access to a router, although I've never used one before. Before diving in, I'd like to know how hard this project is on a scale of 1-10 and if there's anything specific I should think about before starting. Thanks for the help!

First, make sure you got a door slab, not a pre-hung one. A pre-hung door comes with the hinges already installed. Watching some YouTube tutorials can definitely give you the visual help you might need!
Installing these is pretty straightforward! If you pick up a hinge routing kit and some shims from a local store, you'll be in good shape. Also, don't stress too much about the hinges – routing them isn’t as tricky as it sounds!
I’d say just go for it! It might feel intimidating, but routing hinges is pretty easy. Be mindful, though—if you need to trim the door size to fit, that could add more challenges. If you have several doors to do, investing in a router jig will really save you time!
Yeah, those jigs can make the process fast and accurate! It's worth it for a big project.

You actually don’t need shims for just hanging slabs.
