How Is Extreme Weather Affecting Your Garden This Year?

Hey fellow gardeners! This year in Bosnia, I've noticed some frustrating changes in our gardening. We usually plant potatoes, corn, and some other veggies to feed our family through the winter, but recently, our harvests have been quite disappointing. Despite regularly fertilizing the soil with cow manure, this year we seem to be getting way fewer potatoes and vegetables compared to previous seasons. Typically, we would harvest 2-3 tons of potatoes, but now I'm hoping for just 1 ton. The extreme heat and lack of rain—only about 10 rainy days since May—are having a real impact, with corn crops also suffering significantly. I'm curious to know how the climate is affecting gardens in other parts of the world. Are you experiencing similar negative effects, whether big or small? Would love to hear your stories! Cheers!

I've seen a lot of stressed plants this year. Shade cloth has become a must! Surprisingly, my jalapeños are doing great in this warmer and drier summer, but it has me thinking about changing up what I grow. Last summer my tomatoes in pots struggled in the heat, even with plenty of water. I might try raised beds in partial shade next year. Have your potatoes been smaller than usual?

My Macedonian chillies are thriving! I pickled a bunch and still have more coming. Our potato sizes have varied; this year it feels like smaller ones are dominating, but occasionally we get a couple of large ones. Total yield is just not what it used to be.
