How Long Can I Safely Use My Bathtub with a Bad Leak?

I'm dealing with a pretty serious leak from my bathtub on the second floor that's causing water to drip down to the first floor—and it even reaches the basement. My parents don't seem worried about it since it doesn't affect their bathroom, but it's left me with this constant leak. It's already been going for about a week and is damaging about 10 feet of ceiling in the garage with multiple leaking spots. The house is custom-built, and I'm a bit concerned about the wood and rebar holding up the second floor starting to rot. How long do you think I can keep taking baths without risking a big collapse?

Honestly, you need to get that leak fixed as soon as possible. Ignoring it will just lead to more damage and higher repair costs down the line. If the water keeps leaking, it can cause structural issues and mold, which can get really expensive to handle later on.

Using the tub while it's leaking is just going to make things worse! The repairs are going to be more costly the longer this goes on. It's worth discussing with your parents and stressing the urgency—savings on repairs can be a big deal!

If you can, cut into the ceiling where the leak is and try to find the source. Get it patched up temporarily until you can do proper repairs. Mold and rot can escalate quickly, so delaying isn't a safe option. You don't want to risk more damage to the house.
