I'm curious about the storage differences between soft neck and hard neck garlic. I've read that soft neck garlic typically lasts longer than hard neck, but I'm not sure how significant that difference is. Can anyone share how long soft neck garlic can be stored compared to hard neck garlic?

I generally notice that my hard neck garlic starts sprouting after about 9 months, especially since I store it at room temperature. When it starts to sprout, I just peel and freeze the cloves to make them last longer. This way, I can avoid buying garlic from the store!
From my experience, my hard neck garlic can sometimes last a full 12 months, although it really depends on the storage conditions. I've had success keeping them for the whole year without needing to buy any for over 25 years!
Yeah, I've never grown soft necks, but my hard necks usually last until the next harvest. Just be mindful of storage conditions, as they can drastically affect how long they stay good.
Similar here! I've heard soft necks are a bit more forgiving when it comes to storage, but hard necks have their own charm.

That’s a smart way to deal with sprouting! Freezing is definitely a good option if you want to extend the life of your garlic.
