How Long Does it Take to Redo a Kitchen Floor?

I'm planning to redo my kitchen floor in a 12 x 16 area. I'm wondering how many days I should budget for this project, whether I opt for a DIY approach or hire a professional. My plan is to remove the old floor and subfloor, and then refinish the old wood flooring underneath. Any thoughts on the time required?

If you're hiring a pro, you’re looking at about three days max, assuming they can work efficiently. But it really pays to clarify the steps involved with them beforehand!

The time can vary based on the finish you choose. For solvent-based finishes, expect around four days, depending on the temperature and if you're using three coats. For water-based finishes, you might need a week. If you go with an epoxy, it generally takes 3-4 days before you can put furniture back! Just keep in mind that a UV cure epoxy might allow you to finish the whole thing the same day if you're in a rush.

For DIY projects, it really depends on your availability and skill level. A contractor will provide a specific timeline, but be prepared that this could span over two weeks due to demolition and drying times between finishes. Make sure to factor in time for repairs or sanding, as those steps can add to the total duration.

Thanks for the insight! I guess I should prepare for a longer timeline if I want things to be done right.
