We're in the process of a minor kitchen remodel where we're replacing the sink, a centerpiece, and about 20% of our cabinets, along with installing new floor tile. Most of our existing cabinets and counters will remain. Initially, the contractor estimated it would take 6 to 8 days to complete, but now another job has been pushed in front of ours. I totally understand that home improvement projects can be unpredictable, but is it unreasonable for me to expect the work to be done in 2 weeks? It feels frustrating when the contractor changes timelines on us, especially since my wife is deeply invested in this project and we've already spent quite a bit on other upgrades. Am I out of line for wanting to follow up on this timeline? There haven't been any unexpected issues so far.

I think two weeks for a kitchen remodel is pretty optimistic! It's good you’re aware that jobs can run into delays, especially with multiple contractors involved. I would recommend keeping an eye on material shipments – things like cabinets or tiles can often be the real hold-ups. Honestly, I'd prepare for at least a month of disruption just to be safe. Better to be pleasantly surprised than stressed out over a tight timeline!
Look, if a contractor says they need 9-10 days, it’s usually a signal that you're looking at more like 3 or 4 weeks in reality. It’s just the way it goes with these projects, so don’t get too stressed about it. If they’re good at their job, then the end result will be worth the wait!

Great advice! I feel like planning for a month of chaos is spot on. I’m trying to keep the peace here by making sure my wife is happy during the process. I’ve even started treating the house for bugs since we've been dealing with that issue too!
