I'm planning to plant poppies in a small planter that measures 1 foot by 8 feet. They come in packs of 500 seeds each, and I'd like to know how many packs I should buy. Also, how many seeds should I be putting down per square foot? Thanks in advance!

For a planter that size, one pack should be enough! Just make sure to scatter the seeds evenly across the area. If you find some spots have too many seedlings, you can always thin them out later on. Good luck!
