Hey everyone! I'm looking for some insights on restoring the cast iron radiators in my home, which is about 100 years old. These old radiators have been painted over so many times that they're actually starting to block the wallpaper behind them. I have around 15 of them that I'm planning to get sand blasted, flushed, and painted. I'm curious about what this restoration might cost, and if anyone can recommend some good, affordable companies in the Boston area that can do this? Thanks!

You might want to reach out to a local powder coating shop—they should be able to handle sand blasting and coating your radiators in whatever color you like! It’s a pretty straightforward process for them, so that could be a good option.
In my experience up here in the upper Midwest, costs usually run around $400 to $500 per radiator for sand blasting, painting, and a high-pressure flush. If you bring the radiators without the old plugs and pipes, it might add another $100 or so since they'll clean the threads and replace the plugs. Just keep in mind, that price doesn’t cover removal or delivery either!

I also heard of a company in Mass that charges $250 each for restoration, but they warned me that it might not be easy to reinstall hot water radiators. Has anyone had experience with that?
