How Much Should I Budget for a Portable Solar Setup in Hawaii?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to move to Hawaii in a couple of years and I'm really interested in setting up a portable solar system to help keep my electric vehicle charged. I've heard that electricity prices there are quite high, so using the abundant sunlight sounds like a smart idea.

I'm looking to achieve around 5 kWh per hour from the sun, but I'd be okay with less if it saves costs—3 kWh would still be worth it to me. Ideally, I'd love to include a battery to store energy for later use, but I know that could increase the overall price a lot. Since I'll be renting, I want to avoid any permanent installations. What are your thoughts on the feasibility of my goals and what kind of budget should I expect? Thanks a bunch for your help!

Thinking about ground mounts could be a smart move since they’re versatile and won’t damage any roofs you might rent. Plus, if you run into issues with conduit or wiring, using shore power connections will save you the hassle. You can keep things temporary and still functional, which seems perfect for your renting situation.

You might want to check out Mobile Solar Power for a good starting point. They have some great resources for DIY solar setups, from portable systems to larger ones. It’ll help you understand what’s involved in putting a system together, especially for someone who will be moving around a lot.

Honestly, something small and portable could fit your requirements without breaking the bank, especially if you configure it well. Just bear in mind that if you want a battery setup too, that could raise your costs significantly.
