How Much Should I Expect to Spend Making Wooden Cutting Boards?

Hey there! I'm just starting out in woodworking and I've made a couple of cutting boards so far. I've heard that making cutting boards can be a budget-friendly project, but I'm finding my costs are adding up to a couple of hundred dollars for just a few boards. I'm hoping to make some for Christmas gifts and I'm curious what others have experienced in terms of costs. Is there a more economical way to source wood for cutting boards?

I've dabbled in making and selling cutting boards as a hobby. Most of my wood comes from local sawmills or small distributors where you can snag rough-sawn lumber for a fraction of the price. For example, I can turn about $10 worth of maple into a cutting board that sells for $100! Also, keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace; there are often folks selling scraps or wood from storage units at great prices.

That sounds super useful! I've seen some posts like that too but haven't gone out to check them out yet. Maybe I'll take the plunge!
