How Much Should I Tip the Workers Laying Stone?

I have a crew of three college kids laying down 10 yards of stone in this scorching 90-degree heat. Their quote of $2800 was the middle estimate I received from three different companies. While they appear a bit disorganized, they seem like good kids. I've set them up with plenty of water to stay hydrated and have already given them $60 for lunch. My question is: how much should I tip them at the end of the day, or is tipping even necessary?

You really don’t need to tip them since you’re already paying a solid rate for the work. But if they go above and beyond, it might be nice to add a little extra—maybe round it up to $3000 total to make it an even $1,000 for each. It’s totally up to you, though. You've already shown generosity by providing lunch and drinks!
