How Much Space Do I Need for Pickling Cucumbers?

Hey everyone! I'm excited to finally have a yard to plant in this year instead of just using grow bags and containers. I want to try my hand at growing some pickling cucumbers. I have this available area in my yard that has two small spots, each about 2 feet wide, which I think were originally intended for flowers. My question is: is 2 feet wide enough for two cucumber plants in each section, or would it be better to just plant one per spot? Thanks for your advice!

It really depends on whether you have a trellis set up. Without a trellis, 2 square feet won't be enough for even one cucumber plant, since they grow like crazy! But if you’ve got a sturdy trellis and some vertical space, you might be able to fit one plant every foot, maybe a bit tighter if you're trying to maximize the area! 🌱

Thanks for the tip! I do have plans for a trellis, so that helps a lot!

If you're planning to grow them vertically, then yes, you can make it work in that space! Just be sure to set up your trellis before the cucumbers start climbing all over the place. They'll be ready to take off before you know it!
