I'm in the process of remodeling a compact galley kitchen, and the layout has my fridge placed directly across from a closet wall. Right now, there's about 32 inches between the fridge handle and that wall. I read that at least 3 feet is recommended for clearance, but I don't have any cabinets on that wall—just empty space. I'm using a French door fridge that's marketed as 'counter depth,' measuring around 31.25 inches deep including handles. Am I in a tough spot here?

You should definitely check the fridge's specifications. Usually, the manufacturer's manual will tell you how much clearance you really need. If you can’t find it on their website, checking the manual is the best bet! I had a similar issue, and found some helpful info in mine that eased my mind about spacing.
Thanks for the tip! I found the depth with the doors open at 90 degrees is 43.5 inches—so I guess that’s why they recommend extra space!
