I'm looking to build a stand for my computer and originally thought about using two plant stands, but I want something sturdier. I'm considering using 1x4 southern yellow pine, where I'd have two 24" pieces with 12" pieces screwed in between them, leaving a gap. I'm planning to use #8 1.25" wood screws and add 1.5" flat casters in the corners. My computer measures 21" long, 9.5" wide, and weighs between 50 and 100 lbs. How much weight can I expect a 12" 1x4 to support? The wood will be placed horizontally just to lift the case a few inches off the floor.

The weight capacity of a 12" 1x4 really depends on how you position it. Horizontally, it can flex a bit more, but since you're just raising your PC a little, it should be fine under that weight. I'd suggest assembling it and testing it out! Also, consider using longer screws than 1.25" since those are pretty short. A minimum of 1.75" or 2.5" would be better for stability. Flexibility might be an issue, but I think you'll be alright at that weight.

Just keep in mind, the boards are only 0.75 inches thick, so those longer screws might poke through the other side!
