How Obvious Is the Paint Mismatch on Our Cabinets?

Asked By SunshinePanda92 On

We recently had our kitchen cabinets touched up by a contractor during a larger painting project in our new apartment. However, it seems like he used a different paint for the cabinets compared to the original. This has led to a disagreement between my wife and me about how noticeable the difference is. I've shared a photo for reference: [https://postimg.cc/KR3hS917](https://postimg.cc/KR3hS917). Do you think we should ask the contractor to redo the work? Any advice would be appreciated!

Honestly, I noticed it pretty quickly! Once you see the difference, it’s hard to ignore. That said, remember that most guests won’t scrutinize your cabinets like you do. Color matching isn’t too complicated, so if you feel it’s really off, asking your contractor to fix it should be reasonable.

I felt the same way! It’s subtle until you really look for it. Just don’t mention it to your visitors; they'll probably never notice!

From my perspective, it’s not super obvious unless you’re really looking for it. With time, they’ll naturally yellow a bit, which should help them match better. I’d recommend just giving it a while before making any hasty decisions about repainting.

Good point! Over time, the new paint will probably age and blend more with the old. If it’s working for you otherwise, just enjoy your new place!

If you and your wife are seeing things differently, it’s likely a bigger issue for her than for you. But trust me, fresh paint rarely matches old paint perfectly. You could either wait for the newer version to age and blend in or repaint all the cabinets for a uniform look, though that could be more time-consuming and costly.

Exactly! And if you do repaint, might as well get it done properly this time, maybe even get a sample to ensure it matches perfectly.
