How Often Should I Fertilize My Veggie Garden?

Hey everyone! I'm a bit of a laid-back gardener and I started a raised bed last year to grow some veggies. I had a decent yield with a few tomatoes and some oregano, but this year I've attempted to grow a wider variety including lettuce, carrots, squash, tomatoes, basil, and onions. Unfortunately, things haven't been going well—either nothing sprouts at all or they just don't seem to thrive and die after a few weeks. I've been starting my seeds indoors with starter fertilizer and then using all-purpose fertilizer when I transplant, but my plants still look pretty sad. Am I not fertilizing enough, am I overdoing it, or could it just be bad luck?

When I had my raised garden beds, I stuck to feeding every three months using the instructions on the Miracle Gro Veggie Shake and Feed granules. It worked great for me! Just make sure to follow the guidelines, and you should see better results.

You might want to check the type of soil you used in your bed. If you feel good about your watering routine, it might be worth investing in a soil testing kit. They’re usually pretty affordable and can give you some insights about what’s going on down there!

Soil testing sounds like a good idea! I used some 'Raised Bed soil' from the local nursery when I set it up.

I personally fertilize weekly during the summer’s peak growing period. It’s a bit more effort, but I’ve found it really helps my plants thrive! You might want to consider stepping up your fertilizer routine if things aren’t looking great.

Wow, weekly? That’s something I’ll definitely try out!
