How Often Should I Replace My Safety Razor Blade?

Asked By WanderingTurtle99 On

I've been using a Manscaped safety razor with a box of 100 blades I bought on Amazon. I feel like I need to change the blade every time I shave, which seems excessive, but I have no real reference point. What's a typical frequency for changing the blades in a safety razor? Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

Tracking which side of the blade you use can help too. I use one side several times before flipping it. This way, I can stretch the blade life a bit, but I don't push it too far—about 8-10 shaves in total before changing it out.

I used to do that, but now I just flip it for each side of my face, way simpler!

Or just use both sides at once, saves you the trouble!

I like to switch out my blade when it starts to pull, usually after about three shaves. I don’t see the point in trying to stretch the life of cheap blades when they're only a few cents each. Why not just enjoy a smooth shave instead?

Exactly! It’s about the quality of the shave, not just saving a few cents.

Haha, if pennies are your concern, just don't bother with razors!

I change my blade whenever I feel it starting to pull. Usually that means it's time, and I like the smooth feeling better than trying to squeeze out extra shaves.

Yeah, once it starts pulling, it's just not worth it!

For me, that’s after 2-3 shaves max.

I bought a pack of Feather blades two years ago, and I rarely change them out. I usually shave every other day, and I get about a month out of each blade. Maybe consider which brand you’re using; some work better than others!

Feather blades are definitely sharp and last longer than many others. I prefer them too.

I've been using Indian Gillette Wilkinson Swords for years, and I typically change my blade about once a week. But it really depends on how often you shave. If you're shaving every day, a blade might only last a few shaves. Just experiment and see what works for you!

These are my go-to blades too. They've always treated me well!

How often are you shaving though? A single blade can last ages if you're not using it daily!
