How often should I water my basil plant in a plate?

I've heard mixed advice about watering basil plants. I know they don't like to be soggy, but I read that they can sit in a plate of water for hydration. Can I leave my basil in water all the time and just change it out daily, or should I give it breaks from sitting in the water?

Keeping your basil in a plate of water constantly is actually keeping it soggy, which can lead to root rot. It's better to give it some time out of the water. I suggest letting it sit in the water for about an hour and only when the soil starts to dry out. This way, it can absorb what it needs without becoming waterlogged. Just check the soil every few days and watch for droopy leaves as a sign it needs some water.

I've tried leaving basil in a water plate, and it worked well for me without any issues. However, I’m careful to monitor the moisture levels and make sure it’s not soaked all the time.

So you think it's okay as long as you keep an eye on it?
