How Often Should You Re-Caulk Your Shower?

I'm struggling with how often I need to re-caulk my shower. I usually do it when I notice it isn't keeping water in anymore, which feels like way too often—about every six months! Am I doing something wrong? It's a plastic modular shower that flexes slightly if leaned on, and I think that might be part of the problem. I've tried using more caulk without worrying about making it look nice, but it still wears out in six months. Is this just me, or does everyone deal with caulk this often?

Wow, six months seems really frequent! I usually never recaulk mine, and it seems to be holding up fine. Maybe it’s not just you, but also how caulk responds to your specific setup? Have you pinpointed where the leaks are coming from?

I’ve found that letting the caulk dry correctly is super important! On one occasion, I used a fan to help before applying, and it worked wonders. If there’s flex, try to load the shower with some weight before caulking to minimize the issue.

I've had my shower for over 20 years without needing to recaulk. You might just need to do a deep clean before applying new caulk. Each time you do it, make sure the surface is totally dry. That helped me a ton! It’s about making sure everything is prepped right.
