Growing up, my dad used to make roller brushes last forever—literally just one roller for the whole house! That seems pretty extreme to me. For those of you with professional experience, how often do you think it's reasonable to replace or toss out roller brushes after using them?

Paint rollers are super cheap. I’ll reuse the same one if I’m painting with the same color within a reasonable time frame. A little trick is to wrap the roller in plastic wrap to keep it fresh without having to clean it.
For smaller, less intricate projects, I usually just grab those dollar store rollers and brushes. They were actually a better deal when they were just a buck! I tend to buy them in bulk and toss them after each use, especially for quick jobs like painting a shed or a chicken coop. No point in using a high-end roller for that!
I tend to replace them every time I use rollers, unless I'm using a more expensive lambswool one. I crunched the numbers, and cleaning them actually costs me more in labor than just buying new ones in bulk!

Totally agree! Those cheap rollers are low pile and great for primer. I can’t stand washing rollers either.
